Ansel Rodriguez is the Academic Advisor for the Sembrando Scholars Program, a program designed to support youth who are at risk of being pushed out of high school due to academic or behavioral reasons. Through one on one check-ins focused on academic empowerment, leadership development, and character building, the program aims to help students develop the skills necessary to take ownership of their education. Ansel grew up in the East Los Angeles neighborhood of El Sereno, where he attended Anahuacalmecac International University Prep. before studying Chicano Studies at UCLA. Ansel’s experiences coming of age in East LA along with the understandings he carries as an urban Indigenous man has greatly influenced his approach to supporting the youth.
