We believe in development that’s accountable to the community.
The Eastside is rapidly changing, but at what cost? At InnerCity Struggle, we believe in accountability in community development and oppose displacement. That’s why we’ve been organizing to increase public investment in our neighborhoods that best serves the needs of Eastside residents and their families. When the Eastside became a majority Latinx immigrant community, our neighborhoods experienced devastating cuts in public funds and capital flight from the private sector. Now that gentrification is on the rise, we see government, real estate investors, and landlords prioritize profit over people. We believe local residents should be at the forefront of community development to ensure it does not displace low-income, immigrant families, and drive away local businesses that serve our communities.
