'I’m helping to remove the stigma for mental health in the Latino community.'
Why did you join InnerCity Struggle?
I think it was the fact that everybody at InnerCity Struggle was encouraging us to go to college. They wanted to help us. And as students, we all had similar goals of wanting to help the community that we lived in.
Do you have a favorite memory of your time at InnerCity Struggle?
Going on the college tours up north. Because without InnerCity Struggle, I wouldn’t have been able to visit campuses outside of my neighborhood.
What are you doing now?
I work as a Licensed Clinician Social Worker providing individual therapy for AltaMed. I wanted to give back and work with a low-income community similar to my own community growing up. I enjoy it because I see progress in my clients. I’m making a difference in the Latino community by helping to remove the stigma for mental health.
How did being a part of InnerCity Struggle as a youth impact who you are today?
Being a part of InnerCity Struggle has always reminded me that I’ve always wanted to help my community grow and be better.
